Cheap Artist Guide to Digital Art

Say you want to draw and you’re starting out and your broke, this stuff is so expensive, where do you start? The video above is designed to be a starting point for folks looking to get into digital art and are on a tight budget. Below are some of the things I talked about in the video

Drawing Tablets

Wacom Intuos Small - $80 This is definitely more expensive than the alternatives as Wacom almost always is but you are getting their brand name and quality as well. Check out my full review here.

Huion H420 - $30 Huion is becoming a pretty reliable brand name and this is their most inexpensive drawing tablet. It doesn't have as many levels of pressure as the XP-Pen in this same price range but it does have shortcut keys.

XP Pen Star G640 - $30 It's pretty small, the drawing area is only 6 inches by 4" but is has good pen pressure and reviews over on Amazon

Display Tablets

Huion Kamvas Pro 12 - $299 One of the best 12 inch display tablets on the market. A quick note, it's better after you have updated the firmware so I would recommend this only if you are using a Windows computer. Details about the firmware here. And if you want the full review you can watch that here.

XP Pen Artist 12 - $249 The display on this isn't as good as the Huion but everything else is really fantastic especially for such a budget priced display. See my full review here.

Free Software

Medibang Paint (also known as Fire Alpaca) Is free software that works on a lot of platforms like Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. It's also pretty robust and has a lot of options inside.

Autodesk Sketchbook has been around for a long time and about a year ago they decided to do away with the annual pricing model and go free. All you need to do is create and account and sign in.
